The Daily Show archives online & free

Beginning today, eight years of episodes of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” are fully accessible on the show’s Web site. Videos of every skit, every joke and every guest are available for free, fully searchable on TheDailyShow.com. According to Comedy Central, 13,000 videos will be stored in the database. In an interview today, MTV’s Erik Flannigan said he doesn’t believe any other television program has opened its archives so freely on the Internet. Now the content can live forever online. While Web sites increasingly offer streaming versions of television shows, “The Daily Show” is unique because the videos have been made fully searchable through a system of tags.

The video archive is part of a larger MTV strategy to create branded Web sites for popular shows. “With a show that’s as deep and rich and such a part of the American zeitgeist as ‘The Daily Show,’ just having it live as a section of ComedyCentral.com doesn’t do it justice,” Mr. Flannigan said. The new site incorporates banner advertisements, video commercials before and after a show excerpt, and advertising messages stripped across the bottom of the screen during the segments. Tivo, Hyundai, and AT&T are launch sponsors for the new site. That’s a really nice move which could be followed by authors of other TV shows, as they get more and more popular not only in BitTorrent community. Getting the older episodes is often a problem with BT, so this new video archive may be extremely useful for many of you.

most likely flash based with low quality but at least you can hear them (im not putting down ‘see’ because a flash video is not much to see)

Not sure if their site says the archived years or where the info was from. However the archive is longer than eight years worth. I’m currently watching a video from 1996.

And the quality is quite good actually. Better than most youtube videos with perfect audio quality even on the oldest videos. Only downside would be the lack of full screen mode on the player for those not wanting to do it themselves but the player itself.

    Thanks Martin.

So I use DownloadHelper addon for Firefox already, which allows me to pull .flv flash video files fairly easily from a webpage as they are loaded up. I usually do this to play back the video at a later time using FLV Player.

What I noticed here is that you can just download the portion of the episode as soon as it is loaded, then skip to its end, wait for the ad, download the next part, skip to the end…etc…this way in 2 mins I had downloaded all the portions of the episode. The best part? The overlay adds are not part of the original FLV, so after 2 mins of work I sat back and watched last nights episode, commercial free and continuous.

GOOD WORK ! and even better because they are offering it for free.

If only FOX “News” was more like the Daily Show i would bet that American wouldn’t suck so much ass, but then again i could be wrong.

#14/Leechy-Kun…You just need to read WAAAY More in-between the lines with Colbert!…He quite often MORE than john, will make a point that he doesnt actually stand by,in order to make a rhetorical point!…The REAL Man is NOTHING like the “actor” on The Report!…As for the hocking products, its ALWAYS up to the Free Thinking Public weather or NOT to buy anything, not to mention probably half the products he “advertises” Are Not Even Real!…lol
