Children exposed to unwanted porn content

A new study to be published in this week’s edition of Pediatrics reveals that children and adolescents stumble upon more and more porn on the Internet, despite search filters. The exposure to porn occurs while simply browsing the Web and usually in an accidental manner, the study revealed. Among those questioned in the study, 42% have confessed that they have seen pornographic content (images or even short movies) in the last year. 66% of those who responded that exposure to porn occurred while they were Web-browsing have declared that they did not intentionally search for pornographic content and did not want it.

The study was conducted between March and June 2005 and it involved children and adolescents aged between 10 and 17 – I’m wondering a bit why do they reveal results of this study after 2 years – that’s a lot in the internet developement, and the results would be probably very different now. Most of those who were exposed to unwanted online porn were aged between 13 and 17. Still, sizable numbers of 10- and 11-year-olds also had unwanted exposure – 17 percent of boys and 16 percent of girls that age. About one third of the boys aged 16 and 17 confessed that they had intentionally searched for porn sites in 2004, while only 8% of the girls of the same age confessed the same thing.

Internet pornography is now an immense and lucrative online industry, generating earnings of more than $12 billion- roughly equal to the combined annual revenue ABC, NBC, and CBS. One out of every 8 Internet websites is pornographic, and there are over 400 million pornographic web pages on the net. Over the last eight years, the number of Internet porn sites has increased 30-fold. It’s almost impossible to ban all porn websites nowadays, because new sites appears every few minutes. Besides it, don’t you know that the Internet is for porn?

You only have to go to leechers lair to see a prime example of the topic in question.

  5. February 5th, 2007 | 17:51

well hypocrisy, leecher’s lair never intended to be a children portal. it’s quite normal that people who try to find illegal copies of something already faced with the other side of internet…

lol.. the internet was built on porn.. even in the days of BBS’s people were happily dialling away with their 4800baud modems waiting hours to download a set of low quality XXX gif’s.. because of those poor souls suffering we are now blessed with DVD quality porn available quite readily….ahhh god bless you broadband!!!

Not hypocrisy! Just because some kid goes to leechers lair to find the latest fall out boy cd does not mean they are interested in porn. Not every parent has a clue. If my kids need something I download it I don’t even teach them how to. That said I had to teach my oldest not to just guess website names and type them in. 1 misspelled word and you get a porn site instead of the site you wanted.

damn kids are so lucky these days! back then we had to sneak around just to buy/steal pr0n mags from liquor stores, or watch scrambled pr0n on the playboy channel..lol.. now it’s just 2 clicks away in the safety of their bedrooms. seriously, if my kids are ever curious about pr0n, i honestly dont think i can stop them.

people are so concerned about children exposed to pornography…what about exposing them to violence ?
i personally think porn is better choice :D
and yes…who didn’t want to watch porn as a kid ? i sure did :)

  15. February 5th, 2007 | 21:15

Wow.. Are the EVANGELICAL christians lobbying one of their ‘studies’ again ? I cannot fathom to imagine teenagers that DO NOT want to get porn. That just goes straight against nature’s natural way. Talk about a shit survey. What a crock. Now you’re going to see this on the news tonight, and even more parents are going to go crazy nazi on their kids about their internet time.

And Mike: stop being a newb. get easynews. go to alt.binaries.erotica.divx and a.b.e.ijtskljonce or what ever it is called (some .nl ) but they have really good stuff! All DVD rips!

conservative pricks? So anyone who does not want their 10 yr old daughter watching two guys giving a woman a DP while one chokes her is a conservative prick. Well I guess that is me then. Sure I like porn as much as the next guy but it’s not for kids. But if it’s ok with you fine. Maybe some day you will have a daughter who does one of those 100 man gang bangs or is in a lot of scat and or fisting porn flicks. Won’t you be a proud daddy then? If not your daughter then maybe your mom(milf) or sister. O and by the way CodeMaster2 being married does not mean sex once a year. Plenty of married people have sex all the time. Probably more than most single people unless you count whacking off. As for violence. There is a reason for R rating for movies. I don’t want my kids watching violent movies either. I’m sure some would call me a conservative prick for that as well. Somehow people equate parents who actually do their fucking job with conservative pricks. Before you judge me though let me say.
    A. I party more than you
    B. I don’t believe in god or go to any church
    C. I don’t vote republican
    D. I rock out harder than you
    E. My cock is way larger than yours and I use it on my wife frequently(but not as much as you use yours on your hand) lol at that last one even if it is true

well, ‘pornographic content’ does not have to be a full blown gangbang vid. this study will feature some banner or ad under the same description. if you let your 10 year old surf the web un observed, YOU are NOT a great daddy. and most of us started masturbating with 12 or 13 and most kids today will think that’s pretty old. PORN is a reality. if you as a parent don’t do your job and talk to your kids about it… well done. your ISP can’t do it for you.

    oh come on,
11 is the age i started looking for porn mags – and that was way before the internet.
so what, just because it is more accessible nowadays, doesn’t change the fact that kids are looking for porn at the exact same age

I was into porn by age 7. Why does society think people arn’t mature enough to deal with real life until a quarter of it is already over?

1 giant flaming pile of bullshit is what that report is.

I have been using the internet for something like 15 years + and never once have I accidentally stumbled over porn I wasn’t attempting to find.

And you know what? I’ve been asking around, and I can’t find a single person that’s been subjected to unwanted porn. NOT ONE. I don’t believe a word of that report it’s obviously bullshit. I’ll give them this much, I”l lsay their stats about kids watching porn is accurate but those kids went looking for it.

Te ONLY way to get unwanted porn is to either go and click a porn site banner on some website, or to open spam email relating to porn (which you only get if you filled in your email at a porn site)
